National University of Singapore to Develop Blockchain Solutions with Chinese Tech Firm

March 11, 2019

The National University of Singapore (NUS) revealed that it is set to cooperate with Chinese technology company Chongqing Jinwowo Technologies (CJT), on research and development into blockchain-based solutions.

The news was recently announced in late February by People’s Daily Online, an official news outlet of the Chinese Communist Party. Research that will be carried out by the NUS and CJT will include topics such as big data and artificial intelligence (AI).

Previously, the Singaporean university and CJT had jointly participated in a blockchain and big data seminar organized in the city of Chongqing, Sichuan Province to raise awareness about the rise of blockchain technology as well as to promote the development and implementation of its applications in this field. At the seminar, CJT also gave a presentation elaborating on the establishment of the Chongqing Blockchain Industry Innovation Alliance’s charter, the first blockchain association in the area.

Prof. Pang Yan, a professor of the NUS School of Business and Computer Science and Director of NUS Commercial Big Data Analysis Center, expressed confidence that the partnership will combine the strengths of the two organization to come up with new innovations in blockchain applications. Professor Pang Yan said:

This strategic cooperation will work within big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, among other topic

Sources also revealed that NUS will provide technical assistance for the Chinese company, bringing to bear its blockchain expertise in fixing issues in CJT’s new tools.

Other movements in China’s educational institutions include Fuden University’s announcement of establishing a dedicated Blockchain Research Center to further expand its research into blockchain technology and applications.

Meanwhile, another corporate partnership was recently made known, with Microsoft and Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica aiming to conduct joint R&D into AI tools and blockchain technology.
