Malaysia Tech Week 2019 (MTW2019), organized by the Knowledge Group of companies and supported by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in collaboration with several other companies, featured a variety of tech-focused activities such as innovation showcases, business networking opportunities, pitching stages, and access to Malaysia’s tech ecosystem. 

Apart from activities, the event also allowed participants to engage and network with other ecosystem stakeholders in a casual, personal setting.

Communications Minister: Our Diversity Drives Innovation 

Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Gobind Singh Deo, spoke at the official launch of the MTW2019 on June 18th, celebrating the diversity in Malaysia.

“Malaysia, as you know, is a diverse nation comprising multiple races, religions, and cultures. We celebrate that diversity; it is our strength and we are proud of it. Innovation thrives when there is diversity and openness,” Gobind said.

Over a thousand major domestic corporations, ecosystem partners, investors, regulators, and tech startups, as well as international delegations, gathered at the event. 

Malaysia Goes “Seriously Digital” with Multimedia Super Corridor

Gobind added in his speech that the inception of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) in 1996 has transformed Malaysia into a “Seriously Digital” country. MSC’s Cumulative Total Investment reached US$79 billion for the 1997-2018 period, with exports accounting for US$39.74 billion. Furthermore, over 180,000 career opportunities have been created as a result of MSC, according to the communications minister.

“These numbers clearly show that Malaysia is a country with a mature digital economy and is a preferred choice for ICT [Information and Communication Technology] and digital companies from all over the world,” Gobind said.
