Malaysia is launching a new technology visa aimed at attracting international talent in the blockchain space as the government seeks to engage experts in developing national distributed ledger technology (DLT) platforms.
As reported by Coinrevolution, targeted sectors include food supply chains for tracking the origin of food, as well as agriculture and energy. The massive scale of these projects requires a proportionate pool of blockchain professionals that is not yet feasible without bringing in foreign experts in DLT-related fields.
Finding the Right Talent for Malaysia’s Blockchain Market
The new short-term visa program was introduced at the recent Malaysia Tech Week conference, where it was announced that issuance will run concurrently with job openings in blockchain projects.
To manage the short-term visa program, the Malaysian government is partnering with Estonia-based jobs platform Jobbatical and blockchain outfit NEM Foundation, based in Singapore.
Jobbatical will be tasked with linking talents to the Malaysian blockchain market and supplying technical human resources to DLT projects. Meanwhile, NEM will define the hiring standards by defining the skills necessary to ensure that only the most qualified professionals are granted visas to work in Malaysia.
Southeast Asian Nations Step Up Blockchain Training
The visa program has highlighted the need for countries to train their human resources in blockchain and other emerging technologies.
Seri Ganesh Palaniapan, chairman and founder of the SG Education Group, noted that Malaysia has been lagging behind in preparing its workforce for the Industry 4.0 revolution. Indonesia and Singapore in particular have introduced specific programs to train for future readiness.
Additionally, Palaniapan is hopeful that new talent will also help provide blockchain training for Malaysians.
