The Smart Dubai Office, a state agency of the city of Dubai, is hosting the second edition of the Future Blockchain Summit from April 2nd to 3rd, 2019. Anticipating more than 8,000 participants worldwide, discussion topics at the summit will cover the use of blockchain technology in industries such as transportation, education, food, hospitality and tourism, retail and e-commerce, healthcare, energy, fintech and banking, and safety and security.

The highlight of the summit is the PwC Middle East-backed Global Leaders Exchange – a closed-door roundtable where high-level representatives from the government and private sector are set to discuss regulations for blockchain implementation and cryptocurrency.

At the event, at least six live conference and seminar stages will be held with a total of over 140 hours of speaker sessions. More than 80 exhibiting startups and established businesses have confirmed that they will be joining the summit, along with experts from over 130 countries.

Director-General of the Smart Dubai Office Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr has affirmed Dubai’s commitment to exploring the potential of blockchain technology, saying, “We want Dubai to be a global blockchain hub that will lead the way in developing the technology further allowing us to improve lives not only locally, but on a global scale too.”

The global blockchain market is projected to reach a value of US$60 billion by the year 2024, from US$708 million in 2017. Across the globe, the banking and finance industry has been transformed by the rise of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, while other businesses such as those in the energy, real estate, and health care industries are also seeing a higher rate of blockchain implementation.
