Hanoi Innovation Summit is a national- and international-scale event, held for the first time in Hanoi by the Schoolab (Global Innovation Organization) and co-hosted by Hanoi City and the Ministry of Planning and Investment. The summit will be held on August 29th-30th, 2019 at the National Convention Center. It is expected to gather 3,000 attendees, including more than 100 international speakers; the leaders of ministries and departments; businesses and investors; domestic and foreign startups; and academia and major universities in Hanoi.

Exploring urgent issues related to entrepreneurship, the Summit hopes to promote awareness and the spirit of innovative entrepreneurship to the community, especially among students, youths, and intellectuals. In Vietnam, the event plays a role in connecting domestic and international resources to promote startup activities and lead innovative entrepreneurial ecosystems that are flourishing in the country, especially in Hanoi City. In particular, this is an opportunity to introduce and demonstrate innovations in science and technology; broker cooperation and exchange experiences in technology application research; create networks and lead entrepreneurial ecosystems; and promote trade and investment cooperation in the field of technology.

On August 20th, 2019, a press conference officially announced the event in the presence of Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh – Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, heads of departments under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, press agencies, and representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Hanoi Innovation Summit 2019. Additionally, the press conference included the participation of Ms. Truong Ly Hoang Phi – CEO of VinTech City, Ms. Truc-Dao Phan – Director of Open Innovation of Schoolab Vietnam, and Mr. Thomas Tong – Vietnam Representative of Dassault Systèmes, who discussed their roles in the innovation ecosystem in Vietnam and the region.

During the conference, Ms. Phan Nguyen Nguyet Truc Dao, Director of Open Innovation of Schoolab Vietnam, shared an overview of the Hanoi Innovation Summit. The event will take place from August 29th – 30th, 2019 with the theme “Innovate for Inclusion and Sustainability in Emerging Economies” and comprise six tracks: Consumer Technology, Environment, Life Sciences, Smart Cities, Future of Work, and Mobility & Logistics. Two whole days of the Summit will be open to the general public, while professionals will be able to gather a day early.

Following the smart city strategy of Hanoi, the Summit aims to bring leading global innovators from tech giants and investors to startups and innovation experts to inspire and encourage Vietnamese entrepreneurs by exposing them to potential customers and connecting them to funds and networks within wider ecosystems. Hanoi Innovation Summit will become the bridge to connect and bring the best pioneers and startups from around the world to Vietnam for diverse perspectives and experiences.

Hanoi Innovation Summit is co-organized by Schoolab and Startup Sesame. Production partners include Hello Tomorrow and Chab events. The first edition of the new international event, co-hosted by the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, will bring together major tech players, such as AWS, Microsoft, IBM, TechCrunch, NBC News, Golden Gate Venture, and Click Ventures, to redefine the future of innovation and accelerate growth.

Hanoi is Vietnam’s capital city and a growing economic hub. It promotes and fosters innovation thanks to forward-thinking and disruptive companies, such as Vingroup – the Initial Global sponsor of Hanoi Innovation Summit, VinTech City – the Initial Gold sponsor, and Dassault Systèmes – our Global Sponsor. Hanoi Innovation Summit is also delighted to announce our Gold sponsors: VGPC, Microsoft, OpenAsia, and Dreamplex – one of the first and leading coworking spaces in Vietnam. Strategically located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Dreamplex currently has three locations and a fourth due to launch in Hanoi this September. Throughout the event, attendees and guests will also benefit from inspiring insights delivered by our diverse panel of international speakers, such as Michael Lints – Partner at Golden Gate Ventures, Amarit Charoenphan – Executive Chairman & Co-founder of Hubba/Techsauce, Binh Tran – General Partner at 500 Startups, and James Dong – Chief Executive Officer of Lazada Vietnam & Thailand.

Along with hosting various keynotes, panels, and conferences, Hanoi Innovation Summit has also attracted more than 200 international and local startups to sign on for the OI Award startup competition. The winner will go home with a US$10,000 cash prize, AWS cloud credit, free working space, a 1-week acceleration bootcamp in Vietnam, and opportunities to participate in international events from our partner networks in Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, and Canada.

After receiving hundreds of applications, our jury of experts has selected ~60 finalists to join Hanoi Innovation Summit and pitch their projects in front of a qualified board of judges, including Linh Thai – CEO of Vingroup Ventures, Kavi Raj Joshi – Founder & Managing Director of The Next Venture Corp, Mike Butcher – Editor-at-large of TechCrunch, Tomoko Inoue – CEO of Omron Venture, and more. These groundbreaking startups come from all over the world, from Finnish ecological champion Nordic 247 and Hong Kong-based Pablo Air Co. Ltd.’s Drone Show Software to local gems such as bionic limb manufacturer Vulcan Augmentics.

With about 100 startup exhibitors from more than 20 countries joining the event, this is a great opportunity for both local and international startups to not only benefit from Hanoi Innovation Summit’s international community and media, but also to broaden their audience spectrum by meeting our high-value network of professionals. Our seed village partners, Orange and Shinhan Future’s Lab, will also showcase their startups’ products and services at the event.
