Indonesian City Spearheads $140M Blockchain Healthcare Project

The Batam administration (BP Batam) revealed that it has entered into a US$140 million partnership with dClinic a developer of the Public Healthcare Blockchain with the aim of providing better healthcare services to citizens in Batam.

Batam Authorities Spearheading Blockchain Project

Dr. Sigit Riyarto, Director of RSBP Batam Hospital, stated that the hospital is proud to be a part of improving the healthcare system for the residents of Batam.

“RSBP Batam has already won a number of awards for its innovation,” Dr. Riyarto said. “What we can achieve through better communication with our patients will only assist the healthcare system and help bring change to the way we communicate and encourage our consumers.”

The project aligns with the Indonesian government’s plan to create Medical and Digital Economic Zones in Batam. Edy Putra, Chairman of BP Batam, disclosed that the initiative will also attract more medical tourism to the area.

Deloitte: Blockchain Has the Power to Transform Healthcare

Chris de Lavigne, Executive Director at Deloitte & Touche Financial Advisory Services Pte Ltd, which is advising on the project, hailed decentralized technology as playing a big role in the medical industry.

“Exponential technologies such as the Internet of Things, blockchain and artificial intelligence have the potential power to transform the healthcare sector. Around the world, healthcare stakeholders are looking for innovative, cost-effective ways to deliver patient-centered, technology-enabled “smart” healthcare, both inside and outside hospital walls,” de Lavigne said.

Deloitte & Touche is further assisting dClinic to manage issues such as corporate governance and fundraising for the project.
