Indian Institute of Management Offers Advanced Fintech & Blockchain Program

March 17, 2019

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C), together with the training platform TalentSprint, are reportedly jointly rolling out an advanced program on financial and blockchain technologies scheduled for this May.

The new program is aimed at management and finance professionals, seeking to educate participants on fintech growth and its potential impact on the banking and financial sectors.

Program Director Professor Indranil Bose said “a vast majority” of companies in banking and finance view the lack of sufficient fintech talent as an existential threat to their future, adding that the purpose of the advanced program is to “equip and enable 2,000 FinTech professionals” over the next few years.

IIM-C will reportedly begin offering the program both on its campus and via live online sessions through TalentSprint’s digital platform, which will also be deployed to oversee the process and offer capstone projects for students.

IIM-C is one of 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) around the country. The IIMs — established by India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru — are run by the IIM Council, which is headed by India’s Minister of Human Resources Development, currently Prakash Javadekar.

While many companies are already considering blockchain, most still see its adoption as requiring further groundwork. A recent study by software firm Globant found that 64% of organizations intend to invest in blockchain solutions in order to enhance their internal operations, with only 46% believing they are prepared for actual implementation.

The educational establishment in China meanwhile has also been looking into blockchain database technology. Fuden University launched in February the Shanghai Blockchain Engineering Technology Research Center, in cooperation with Zhongan Online Property Insurance Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Zhongren Information Technology Co., Ltd. The center is to conduct basic research on blockchain, demonstrating its applications and providing talent training.
