Tech giant IBM revealed it has partnered with VetBloom — a subsidiary of U.S. veterinary health organization Ethos Veterinary Health — to provide a blockchain-powered platform for managing the credentials of veterinary practitioners using the immutable ledger system.

Digital Credentials for Veterinary Practitioners

IBM has issued a press release stating it has partnered with VetBloom to introduce a blockchain-enabled platform for veterinary professionals, according to CrytoNewsZ.

Using an immutable ledger, practitioners in the program will receive digital badges once they complete educational tasks on the platform. The system will then record the credentials of all practitioners in the ledger.

Major players in the veterinary industry are also collaborating with IBM and VetBloom to develop this platform, from the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) to the International Council for Veterinary Assessment (ICVA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

Offering Blockchain Solutions for the Industry

Currently, the working group has already developed an initial version for the blockchain-enabled platform, and is developing a second for the solution.

Several other entities are also expected to join the initiative while the governance structure of the project is still under development.

Meanwhile, Patrick Welch, Founder of VetBloom and Chief Knowledge Officer of Ethos Veterinary Health, said the organization is open to using blockchain technology.

“We have worked diligently with IBM over the last year to bring key industry stakeholders into this initiative, creating a veterinary ecosystem that will join IBM’s broader work around learning credentials and blockchain,” Welch said.
