On September 20th, Asia Blockchain Review is presenting a 2-hour in-depth overview of the Malaysia blockchain landscape. By partnering with such a diverse panel including the University of Malaya and their Faculty of Law, the panel will approach blockchain through a series of angles such as legal-tech research and educational practices.

ABR aims to become one of the leading community builders and researchers within the Asian blockchain ecosystem. Their mission to to accelerate and cultivate the entire Asian blockchain community through comprehensive coverage and by hosting events. So far, they have been involved in over 30 events just this year alone and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

In addition to their diverse roster of partners, the panel will feature key speakers known for being leaders in the industry, from different corners.

• From the University of Malaya, Nur Husna Zakaria, who teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Corporate & Competition Law, will share her research on ICOs in the context of regulatory requirements and compliance. This is no easy topic to begin with, as the entire blockchain industry as we know it is undergoing major fluctuation when it comes to legal compliance. What’s considered legal and “illegal” or “gray” when it comes to ICOs? These are some of the many questions that Nur Husna Zakaria will address next week.
• Building off of the legal research topic, will be Yeap Yee Lin – Co-Founder and President of JusTECH, who combines legal perspective with a tech edge to offer insight into the blockchain landscape. As founder of Malaysia’s first student-run law-tech club at the University of Malaya, Yeap Yee brings a fresh perspective with a tech-driven spirit to dive deep into the cross between legal and tech.
• Co-Founding partner to Yeap Yee Lin and & Vice President of JusTECH is Danesh Aggarwal. During his first first year at the University of Malaya, Danesh was up in arms when it came to online scamming and cybercrime in the country, which he dealt with by writing numerous published articles for the UMLR (University of Malaya Law Review). After meeting Yee Lin at university, they decided to partner up.
• Mark Smalley, Co-Founder & CEO of Neuroware, has been, in the recent years, creating R1.my – a technology training and consultancy group which works within the private sector, start-ups, as well as government agencies who need help implementing and adopting new technologies. His expertise and knowledge in the field have been adapted by massive organizations and revered by many, including the 500 Startups accelerator program in Silicon Valley.
• Tan Lim Soon Fu is the CTO of EPC Blockchain – an energy saving consortium as well as an expert in the fields of Project Management, Internet of Things, and mobile and web apps, totalling over 20 years of experience. With his international educational and working experience, he is sure to offer worldly insight and weigh in on topics from various different angles.
• Beryl Lai is the Brand Creative Lead of Blocklime. She will take what is, perhaps, the most underrated and elusive topic in the entire industry – communications. Her background as an experience creative designer in multiple industries, has led her to take immense interest in this new up-and-coming industry and wonder about its branding. Can mass interest and adoption of a tech revolution be enough to fully immerse and understand it? According to Beryl, the pen is mightier than the sword and if we’re going to get as far as we envision, the branding and messaging of blockchain has to be improved. Public knowledge and approval takes precedence, even in something as massive and impactful as blockchain.
