Coke One North America (CONA), Coca-Cola’s entity responsible for the digital platform for the beverage supply chain, has revealed that it is adopting SAP’s blockchain platform to increase the efficiency of its franchises across the supply chain.

Connecting Bottling Firms and Ensuring Efficiency

According to a report from Business Insider, the project spearheaded by CONA will help connect between 70 franchised bottling firms and ensure more efficiency in the product supply chain.

With SAP’s solution, inventory data will be stored on a single platform, enabling related parties to fill orders with more convenience and greater transparency. CONA also revealed that the system is expected to decrease reconciliation time from 50 days to under 7 days in the future.

Previously, two bottling franchises — C.C. Clark and Coca-Cola United — participated in the trial for the blockchain solution, before the project was expanded to cover all 70 franchises.

With CONA’s large-scale operations, the new platform could potentially offer the firm millions of dollars in savings due to higher efficiency in the management system.

Saving Operational Costs with New Technology

Andrei Semenov, Senior Manager at CONA, revealed that the blockchain platform will speed up the entire process for the franchises. He stated:

“There are a number of transactions that are cross-companies and multiparty that are inefficient. They go through intermediaries; they are very slow. And we felt that we could improve this and save some money.”

Torsten Zube, Head of the SAP Innovation Center Network, said the decentralized technology will help with the flow of information within the supply chain, while the number of invoice disputes will decrease due to the transparency of the blockchain solution.
