The candidature list for United States of America’s (USA) presidency election, all set to be held in November this year, is full of surprises. Following the controversial announcement of Kanye West over Twitter, Brock Pierce jumped in last minute to declare that he too will be running for presidency this year. While Kanye West is making a real show of his election campaigns, it is yet to be seen what Brock Pierce brings to the table.

For now, what makes Brock Pierce a strong contender for the running of USA presidency is his background. The bio on his campaign website reads, “Brock Pierce is an entrepreneur, humanitarian, and philanthropist with an extensive track record of founding, advising, and investing in innovative businesses and foundations. He is a global leader and pioneer in the technology of digital currency and has raised more than $5 billion for the companies he founded.”

Former Disney child actor, Brock Pierce went on to become an entrepreneur and a blockchain venture capitalist. He co-founded Tether (formerly known as Realcoin) and is well-known for his contribution to EOS Token, Blockchain Capital as well as Block.One. Pierce’s role in Mastercoin (first ICO) is noteworthy too. He is presently the Chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation.

Controversies

There is a fair share of controversies surrounding Brock Pierce. Although never charged, he has been accused of being a part of an underage sex ring. Tether stablecoin has always been rather sneaky about its currency backing reserves and last year it was found that in its ICO, Block. One had violated the federal securities law.

However, none of these are founded claims that Brock Peirce is directly associated in any of the shady occurring.

The dark horse

Brock Pierce has been described as a “visionary and madman, idealist and opportunist, entertainer and businessman, magician and hedonist, narcissist and community builder,” by The Rolling Stone. Indeed, he can prove to be what the country needs at this juncture.

Promising to use technology to improve lives and enhance institutions, Brock Pierce explains in the video announcing his presidency candidature why Americans must embrace a more technologically advanced future and how he can be the guide to taking the country forwards into 21st-century technology practices.

A vocal advocate of blockchain technology and digital currencies, Brock Pierce strongly believes that “entrepreneurs are essential to the rebuilding of this nation” and thus he is a “staunch supporter of entrepreneurs and small businesses”.

Of course, cryptocurrencies and blockchain are the future and that is exactly what Brock Pierce is leveraging his candidature on. But whether the country is ready to embrace this cryptocurrency guru as their new leader? The world will have to wait till November this year to find out.
