Experts revealed that blockchain technology will still rank among one of the top trends in the industry, while gamification is also going strong.
In CoinDesk’s 2019 Year in Review, futurist and financial innovation experts David L. Shrier wrote that from his experience working with blockchain entrepreneurs across the globe, the aspect of blockchain that is on everybody’s mind is how to develop new use cases.
“…not just any scenario where distributed ledgers might be applicable, but natural uses cases where blockchain is clearly a superior platform versus other database technologies,” said Shrier.
Meanwhile, the video game and online gambling industries are experiencing strong growth, with the sectors estimated to be worth US$300 billion and US$94 billion, respectively.
According to John D’Agostino, founder of Digital Assets Working Group, one of the top trends for 2020 will be the “gaming and commodification of the gaming experience.”
Additionally, numerous opportunities lie in “combining the theoretical fungibility, transparency and security of blockchain databases along with the ease and portability of tokens to create new markets for digitally native assets and experiences like online gaming,” said D’Agostino.
On the other hand, Shrier noted that Bitcoin is “the most financially successful blockchain project to date” with many Bitcoin-protocol projects to be unveiled in 2020.
Experts have also voiced that the next frontier for Bitcoin is in Africa and that the continent could prove to be a ‘game-changer’.
Michelle Chivunga, Advisor to the African Union, has revealed, “With the Africa Free Trade Area agreement in line to transform the continent, Africa is in [a] strong position to play a leading role in the digital revolution tapping into key technologies like blockchain.”
