Since the catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas in August, a significant number of people have been left homeless amid widespread damage to the nation’s infrastructure.

PO8, a blockchain company based in the Atlantic archipelago, has called on the blockchain community to make donations towards relief efforts in cryptocurrency, with PO8 to match every donation.

Raising Bitcoin, Ether for Hurricane Relief Efforts

According to a statement on its website, PO8 has set up an operation to raise funds to rebuild the worst-hit areas of the Bahamas.

“PO8 is asking your partnership as first responders to Hurricane Dorian by setting up a Bahamas Blockchain Hurricane Dorian Relief Fund. PO8 has pledged 1 billion PO8 tokens to hurricane relief efforts. For every dollar worth of crypto donation, PO8 will match it 100%,” the company said, adding that donations can be made via its GoFundMe page.

Meanwhile, PO8 is also urging the blockchain community to share its relief efforts via social media and share PO8’s campaign which will lead donors directly to the Hurricane Relief Fund wallet.

Rebuilding the Bahamas

Matthew Arnett, Co-founder and CEO of PO8, underlined that in this difficult time, it is important to give back to society.

“PO8 has been a first mover in the blockchain community to rally everyone behind the Bahamas to donate Bitcoin or Ether to the recovery cost,” said Arnett. “A hundred percent of the donations go directly to projects that we can see from start to finish, whether it’s buying water, finding temporary shelter, housing, whatever it is, even for psychological treatment for post-traumatic stress syndrome.”

“I believe the blockchain community has seen the Bahamas as a jurisdiction that they can come, that they can believe in, and they can register in to build their projects. Now, we need your help, and as we become stronger, we will be there to help the next person.”
