Blockchain has become one of the fastest growing skills among workers in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Singapore.
As reported by The Next Web, U.S. business and employment service LinkedIn analyzed the skills listed by its members from the APAC region over the span of the last five years in order to identify the top ten rising skills.
It found blockchain expertise to be the fastest growing in Singapore and among the top three in China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
The report by LinkedIn describes skills in blockchain as mostly involving setting up and managing distributed and decentralized public ledgers. Workers with said skills often filled the roles of blockchain developers, chief technology officers (CTOs), and consultants.
In addition to blockchain, the other top 10 rising skills in the region included artificial intelligence (AI), front-end web development, robotic process automation (RPA), workflow automation, social media marketing, continuous integration and gesture recognition technology.
Demand for workers in these fields, believed to still be in their nascent stages, is already three times that of the overall talent base on LinkedIn. Current projections indicate this demand will only increase further in line with wider scale adoption of their associated technologies.
Blockchain technology has seen increased interest in Asia ever since its disassociation with its first and most prominent use-case in the form of cryptocurrencies.
Even as most regional governments remain wary of virtual currencies, many have nevertheless expressed intent to implement blockchain in other sectors. Indeed, mainstream institutions in the financial sector have found blockchain particularly useful as they seek to improve existing services.
