HTC is planning to launch another blockchain-based smartphone, following the self-proclaimed success of its HTC Exodus released late last year.
The Exodus has been a serious option for those who use crypto applications, coupled with the ability to store tokens on the device. Though the Exodus runs on Android, it remains unclear what operating platform the next smartphone will be based on, with speculation that HTC could be developing a brand new platform for the blockchain-based product line.
Recently, the company also announced its investment in blockchain fund Proof of Capital, which is worth over US$50 million. The move is expected to further HTC’s blockchain phone development.
According to Taiwan News, HTC’s Decentralized Chief Officer Phil Chen told reporters that sales of the company’s first blockchain phone did not disappoint, without disclosing unit sales or the company’s targets for the handset.
Chen said that despite the relative infancy of blockchain implementation, it is a promising technology that carries significant commercial value and potential for the future, likening its trajectory to that of petroleum from the 1900’s onwards.
The DCO stressed that what makes blockchain unique is the prospect of ultimate privacy for its users.
HTC Corporation is a consumer electronics company headquartered in Xindian District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. It started out as a laptop computer manufacturer and became renown as one of the top smartphone manufacturers in recent years.
