Governments and institutions in many countries actively explored blockchain in 2019, seeing it as a technology that will transform many sectors. One of the world’s largest organizations, the United Nations, has launched many blockchain-based projects, while Chinese President Xi Jinping has publicly endorsed the technology.
This year, blockchain and cryptocurrency are expected to grow further, with industry leaders suggesting ideas for better adoption of the technologies in 2020.
Valery Vavilov, co-founder and CEO of Bitfury Group, the largest non-Chinese Bitcoin blockchain software development company, spoke to Cointelegraph about his wish for blockchain this year.
“I hope that more people, companies and governments around the world will choose to do good, driven by inner values that focus on making the world more trusted, livable and secure for all of us,” said Vavilov.
Bitfury was included on the Forbes 2019 “Fintech 50” list. The company has procured regulatory approval for a Bitcoin mining fund for institutional investors.
Alex Mashinsky, founder and CEO of Celsius Network, a decentralized lending and borrowing platform, raised concerns about the issues of gender gaps in the crypto sector and the centralization of the social media.
“I know our crypto community is not currently equally distributed and I would like to see more women join us to reach half of the community. I would also like for some of the projects to hit mass scale and deliver mass adoption,” said Mashinsky.
He added that “the entire Internet will become an application on the blockchain,” and blockchain could fight the centralization of social media, which he believes has helped spread fake news.
