Ripple has broadened its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) to Japan, onboarding both Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo.
According to a report by CoinDesk, this global initiative now boasts 33 university partners to further accelerate academic research, technical development, and innovation in blockchain, crypto assets, and digital payments.
With the project’s US$50 million fund, Japanese universities that join the Ripple program will receive financial support to equip developers and computer scientists with the necessary knowledge and skills to support its vision of a future digital economy.
Eric van Miltenburg, Senior Vice President of Global Operations at Ripple, explained that UBRI seeks to spread awareness of blockchain’s impact on various industries, and universities will be key to the technology’s adoption.
“University partners will continue to increase positive awareness of the transformative impact that blockchain technology will have across various industries,” Van Miltenburg said. “As the industry matures, the academic community plays a pivotal role in paving the road for innovative companies and entrepreneurs leveraging blockchain technologies and digital assets.”
So far, the UBRI has partnered with several top universities around the globe. Participants currently include a total of 33 educational institutions based in 14 nations.
Ripple issued a press release stating that it provides financial aid to help promote blockchain education at the institutions, as well as support collaboration in the space with its expertise and technical resources as needed.
Ripple in June announced its partnership with the Brazilian Universities of São Paulo and Fundação Getulio Vargas as part of its South America investment plan, which has already committed to several other universities in the region.
