Vottun Plots Its Own Course Ahead

The current state of affairs of the world with the pandemic continuing to wreak havoc remains a very fluid one. It is this vein that we decided to catch up with Rohan Hall, Founder/CTO/CEO Vottun USA. This the third and final part in our interview series.

The rise of automation is a big factor in how jobs will be in the future. It was already accelerating even before the onslaught of the pandemic. How do you see this playing out?

RPA and automation are not new and has been around for a few years now.  This technology automates the work done by many office workers.  It’s a very powerful tool and its approach is responsible for a lot of headcount reduction in the last few years.  Most large consulting firms have created automation practices to take advantage of this over the last few years.  To get a sense of the impact automation will have, currently we have about 30 million people in the USA that have filed for unemployment based on COVID-19. While a recent McKinsey & Co report estimates that 400 million to 800 million jobs worldwide will be displaced by automation by 2030.

This pandemic has brought about remote working, video conferencing and RPA in a big way to organizations. 5G, AI, IoT, big data and cloud computing all on a bedrock of blockchain technology seems to be the way forward. What’s your take on this new dawn?

There is a predictable convergence of technologies occurring. I did a recent talk regarding this at an MBA university in Spain. This is new and possibly the first time in history that we have had so many massive technologies emerging at the same time. Vottun was built with this as a key part of our vision and roadmap.  Our vision is that Blockchain will be the centerpiece of this convergence of emerging technologies. We built the Vottun protocol to facilitate this.  We have since then built use cases in Education, Identity, Supply Chain, Healthcare on top of this protocol.

As we embrace the other emerging technologies we are able to integrate with 5G, AI, Cognitive Intelligence, IoT, Cloud computing. Vottun already works with the major cloud infrastructures including Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure; we work with the major blockchain platforms including Oracle, Hyperledger, Ethereum, ETC, Quorum, Alastria; we integrate with AI, IoT and big data.  We also look forward to other emerging technologies including smart devices, neuromorphic computing, nano computing, and the various components of AI including ML, NLP, NLG and other technologies.

Finally, what’s in your crystal ball? Where do we go from here? How are we going to be ready for what’s next?

As technology emerges our needs will as well.  Research in medicine that took decades will take hours or minutes or seconds; health issues that were unsolvable will be solved; life spans that were shortened by illnesses will be extended; time to travel will be reduced.  I believe that technology will bring us this and much more in our constant evolution.  What we do with this however is a different question.  But it is not such a difficult question if you understand the history of our species.
