TopDev Redefines The Future Once Again

Asia Blockchain Review
June 13, 2020

In recent years, the demand on IT human resources has been on the rise in the national market. Among the top IT job search platforms in Vietnam, TopDev proves itself to become one of the most common names for developers and IT specialists. Asia Blockchain Review (ABR) recently had the privilege to talk to Mr. Nguyen Huu Binh – CEO of TopDev to get the picture of a thriving business in the digital field.

ABR: Firstly, thank you for taking the time to talk to us at ABR. How are things? How has 2020 been so far?

TopDev: Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share my opinion with ABR. We’ve been working on lots of new products for the HR market, among them is the TopDev website makeover.

ABR: Obviously with the Covid-19 pandemic, trade wars, supply chain disruptions and more, things are quite fluid these days. How has the present affected the business so far?

TopDev: As you may know, 70% of Vietnamese people have devices connected to the Internet. Therefore, Vietnam seems to have prepared for changes especially for enterprise digitization. Three key elements that many businesses in Vietnam are following: Reforming regulations, Applying management tools, and Streamlining processes.

ABR: Apparently Vietnam currently has about 350,000 to 400,000 developers, but only 20% of them are active in finding new opportunities on job search sites. The demand for developers could reach 500,000 by 2021. Could you expand on this?

TopDev: In the past 9 months of 2019, Vietnam has attracted $26,16B FDI which brought Vietnam to the 8th position among 20 best countries to invest in according to US News & World Report. Besides, foreign languages and social interaction skills should become the focal point as well. However, businesses also face challenges in retaining employees and recruiting newbies. They should focus more on creating work-life balance, and making the working environment friendly.

ABR: Cutting edge technologies like blockchain are now becoming an increasingly popular framework for the bigger picture in IT, integrating 5G, AI/ML, IoT, Big Data and Cloud Computing. What are your thoughts on this? How do Vietnam and the APAC region fit into this narrative?

TopDev: At the moment, Vietnam government is taking Industry 4.0, AI/ML as a priority, the awareness of Vietnamese people about blockchain is still limited and the legal corridor is not solid enough for blockchain to grow.

However, regarding APAC, Blockchain applications in Vietnam are widely related to key areas such as fintech (83%), supply chain (40%), etc. so I believe Vietnam can definitely fasten its path in implementing Blockchain.

ABR: Finally, from your experience in the marketplace, what do you see in your crystal ball? 2020 and beyond….what does the future hold for your company and the world at large?

TopDev: In the near future, Vietnam’s Information Technology industry will still be facing four waves:

  • The first is the increasing amount of foreign investment funds into Vietnam’s market, leading to a rising number of new startups.
  • The second is the escalating demands for human resources in Fintech-related fields such as AI, Data Science, Big Data, Cyber Security.
  • Third, the Tech startup movement and the increasingly available startup projects shall contribute considerably to the present rising demands for IT human resources.
  • Finally, as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a factor, a shift of investment from western countries from China to Southeast Asia is definitely a silver lining for Vietnam.
