South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has revealed plans to make data sharing relating to military acquisition projects more secure and reliable.
According to a Cointelegraph report, DAPA issued a statement on April 10th that it is exploring the use of blockchain in enabling the sharing of information on military acquisition projects. The platform will be jointly used by government organizations, with the aim of preventing and deterring data forgery.
The agency added that the move will be carried out in cooperation with organizations such as the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality and the Agency for Defense Development.
Moreover, DAPA disclosed that the blockchain-based platform will assist in cutting down on the use of documents normally required in applications for state procurement projects. The system will also serve to unify related documentation.
Earlier this year, DAPA introduced a trial for the development of blockchain-based applications for military adoption, with the South Korean administration reportedly intending to pour as much as US$530,000 into each project.
The movement towards blockchain adoption is being implemented with support from the Korea Internet & Security Agency, which falls under the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Meanwhile, the US Department of Defense late last year said that blockchain-based platforms could be implemented for emergency response operations. Elsewhere, advisory firm Accenture has joined hands with international aerospace company Thales Group to upgrade aircraft supply chains with blockchain technology.
