South Africa’s BAA Announces Strategic Blockchain Collaboration

South Africa-based Blockchain Association of Africa (BAA), a non-profit, pan-African organization, has announced a partnership with Tanzania-based Afriplains Digital (AFD) and Singapore’s Blockchain Worx (BCW) to advance efforts towards equipping the African community and stakeholders with hands-on education about blockchain technology and the tools to shape the future of the continent.

According to PR Newswire, the collaboration will focus on a common vision for driving technology education, community outreach, and building capacity as well as local talent. This will, in turn, drive adoption and help with the implementation of new technology, while also bringing sustainable and exceptional business value to the African continent.

The three parties plan to kick off their partnership by deploying BCW’s Blockchain Innovation Center throughout local chapters in South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The center is designed to explore possibilities while forging alliances and accelerating innovation among institutions as well as communities.

As a native digital technology, blockchain is positioning industries, such as financial services, for major transformations. Although most applications are still in the early stages, use case categories have started to emerge, with various projects currently advancing beyond the conceptual phases. Nevertheless, it remains necessary to acknowledge the gap between potential and tangible implementation.

Any institution with a well-rounded knowledge base, together with an array of deployable development tools, can set up its own blockchain innovation lab within a short timeframe.  These resources should be carefully selected to maintain relevancy and assist with understanding innovative potential, while also helping the organization in question to develop applicable use cases.

The Blockchain Innovation Center was established to help institutions, both private and public, in understanding and harnessing the potential of the emerging technology.
