Huobi, a crypto exchange based in Seychelles, has announced it will be introducing a blockchain phone to allow consumers to trade cryptocurrencies more conveniently.
In an article by Technode, it was revealed the phone was developed by Huobi’s venture capital division, Huobi Capital.
Designed by Whole Network with funding from Huobi Capital, the exchange’s Android-based smartphone has been dubbed “Acute Angle”. Currently only available in China, the device has been priced at US$515 and can be bought using Huobi’s own token. It comes packaged with features specific to cryptocurrency trading, including notifications on market movements and a crypto wallet app alongside its own cold wallet.
An official launch outside of China has been scheduled for September 11, when the phone will become available throughout Southeast Asia. Plans to sell the phone in the United States and Europe have been disclosed but a definite date has yet to be set.
Acute Angle, said to be the first among more to come from Whole Network, adds Huobi to the growing list of tech companies offering a blockchain phone, which now includes Samsung, HTC, China Telecom and Sirin Labs.
Huobi Global CEO Livio Weng provided a statement to Coindesk explaining the company’s decision to release a blockchain phone and how it will empower consumer cryptocurrency trading, stating, “As the industry develops and as innovations like 5G become increasingly integrated into our telecommunications systems, we believe more and more crypto communities will want to trade and transact from mobile devices.”
