Samsung DSD Named as South Korea’s Representative Blockchain Operator

Samsung SDS, the software arm of tech giant Samsung, recently announced that it has been nominated as South Korea’s representative blockchain operator by the global IT advisory group Forrester.

Along with Samsung SDS, Forrester also titled China’s JD Cloud, Japan‘s NTT Data, and Thailand‘s IBM as the representative blockchain company of their respective country and discussed their application cases.

SDS’s Nexledger Driving Businesses in Various Sectors

Samsung SDS focuses on facilitating blockchain-based businesses in the finance, logistics, manufacturing and public sectors with its powerful blockchain platform Nexledger. The firm has also displayed its potential through different blockchain cases ranging from consulting to actual applications.

Based on Nexledger, the Bank Sign service of the Korea Federation of Banks was introduced by Forrester as an ideal showcase of blockchain ecosystem expansion. Bank Sign is an authentication service for banking, powered by blockchain, that provides electronic financial transaction services with greater security and convenience.

Blockchain-Based Application Cases by Samsung SDS

Samsung SDS has employed blockchain to facilitate export customs clearance and logistics services offered by the Korea Customs Service. This service enables export agencies and companies to instantly share documents at each stage from customs declaration of export goods to final delivery in an instant.

DELIVER is a blockchain initiative co-developed by Samsung SDS, ABN Amro, one of the major banks in the Netherlands, and the Rotterdam Port Authority to enable cross-platform connection between different blockchain networks such as Nexledger, Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum.

Furthermore, Samsung SDS is reportedly planning to launch an automatic billing service that will allow patients to submit medical data for claims without hassle by establishing a network between medical institutions, digital healthcare companies and insurers.

Following these achievements, Samsung SDS was honorably mentioned as one of the key global blockchain companies by Gartner in August.
