At the 2019 Cloud Summit recently held in Hong Kong, Huawei announced that it has been developing a blockchain-powered cloud service to support its clients in preparing for the future of intelligent cloud computing.
The summit welcomed over 1,000 industry representatives and stakeholders in the cloud computing industry from Hong Kong, Guangdong, and Macau, as part of Huawei’s efforts to promote Hong Kong as an international financial and logistics hub in the region.
Edward Deng, President of Huawei Cloud Global Market, revealed that blockchain-based services are being developed to empower businesses to operate using cloud computing systems on the blockchain, which offers the unique characteristics of the decentralized ledger: decentralization, immutability, and traceability.
Very few details regarding the blockchain service have been provided, but experts speculate that the new service will be a form of privatized ledger tailored to corporate clients.
Huawei has previously expressed interest in blockchain. In 2018, the company joined a group to carry out research on the implementation of blockchain across different industries.
Large international companies have explored the potential of blockchain, with big names like Amazon, IBM, Intel, and Microsoft developing ways to use the technology in their operations. The adoption of blockchain, however, can differ widely depending upon the objectives of each company.
Huawei Cloud also unveiled other cutting-edge tech services at the summit, such as its enterprise intelligence (EI) full-stack AI solutions, offering an AI developer platform, natural language processing, and video analysis, among others.
