ABR recently had a chat with the CEO of EMURGO Indonesia, Shunsuke Murasaki, on the traceability solution that it offers across the nation. In Indonesia, is the public somewhat well aware of blockchain development and exploring blockchain integration for real use cases?

The Indonesian public is aware of blockchain technology, mainly due to the gradual rise in media attention attributed to Bitcoin for the last couple of years. However, further exploration of potential blockchain use cases is still very limited overall, mainly due to lack of skilled workers with blockchain proficiency in the local market. This is an area that EMURGO Education and the local unit in Indonesia is focused on by providing educational services through online and offline course content. The goal is to train future blockchain developers and skilled workers to contribute value-added services to a rapidly developing global blockchain industry.

How has blockchain-driven EMURGO’s strategic focuses as an entity?

What are your plans in the next coming years for EMURGO Indonesia? 

At EMURGO Indonesia, we are focused on expanding the integration of EMURGO Traceability Solution to more local enterprises to add value to their supply chains. We will continue to also focus on partnering with more local universities to offer blockchain education workshops and course content. 

For EMURGO Traceability Solution’s expansion to other coffee brands, 38 local farmers are using our solution to track their bean production up the supply chain. In the Kerinci region alone, there are more than 500 local coffee farmers. Once all the stakeholders get used to using our solution, then we plan to expand gradually so that all the farmers in the region will be able to use the solution. We believe there is much room to grow and increase the usage of our solution to solve a common issue in not only the coffee supply chain, but other local supply chains as well.

Any tips for the newcomers of the growing technology? 

Blockchain technology has so much potential to impact people and businesses in a beneficial way. The key is to start with learning the basics of blockchain and thinking about how it can help people. There is a lot of room for newcomers to join and help the industry grow.
