In the latest court in Hangzhou, China, documents and evidence authenticated with blockchain can be used in legal disputes. It is also a first time that blockchain-powered data can be considered as evidence for judgement.

This action was from the Hangzhou Internet Court, a subsidiary body of the General court which handle specially disputes over internet-related intellectual property

This Chinese law firm has confirmed that they will keep their fair and neutral viewpoint on using blockchain to analyze case-by-case.

As reported, the case was between Huatai Yimei, a Hangzhou-based media company and a Shenzhen-based technology company. It is stated that the tech firm re-posted Huatai Yimei’s article in their website without Huatai company’s consent.

During the judgment procedure, the media firm show a screenshot of the web page which was questioned to use unauthorizedly their content. Since Huatai Yimei encoded the images, source code, other evidence and upload to third-party blockchain platform called baoquan.com – a blockchain evidence deposition website.

The court agreed that the documents are valid evidence and determined that the Shenzhen tech firm violated copyright infringement..

According to Hangzhou Internet Court’s website, they have introduced an online evidence system that provides not only traditional notarization but also authorized methods including blockchain-based evidence deposition platforms of third parties.
