As reported by Cointelegraph Japan on November 21, numerous enterprises in coordination with Sumitomo Mitsui (SMBC) – a Japanese banking giant have planned to donate an amount of up to $800,000 towards the University of Tokyo, launching a blockchain course.
Mentioned in a press release published on November 20, Good Luck 3, JSS, Zipper, Hotto link, and Money Forward are five of the contributors to the endowment, apart from SMBC and Ethereum Foundation. The banking group neither unveils the elements of 90 million yen contribution nor disclose the prominent donor.
Regarding the press release, the educational course, which is named Blockсhain Innovation Donation Course will last three years beginning from November 1, 2018, till October 31, 2021.
The course targets at students aiming to become entrepreneurs working on blockchain industry. The focus of the course is the proliferation of decentralized solutions, their social implementation as well as human resources. Not only purely theories but also practice will be combined in the course module, such as establishing an information and communications technologies (ICT) service or developing a blockchain-driven business model.
Blockchain is frequently reported by to attract considerable interest from numerous universities around the world. A recent study by Coinbase instituted that among top 50 universities across the world, 42 percent of which offer at least one crypto-related class, whereas blockchain-related courses achieve immense popularity at Stanford and Cornell in the USA.
Lately, the University of Gibraltar, New York University and German Frankfurt School have introduced various blockchain courses.
A non-profit established to encourage projects on the Ethereum blockchain – the Ethereum Foundation, announced its the fourth wave grants awarded to 20 different people and entities mid-October. The award in total surpassed $3 million, with the biggest grants worth $500,000 given to Prysmatic Labs and Status, both working on the Ethereum 2.0 ecosystem first announced by co-founder Vitalik Buterin in November 2017.
